If you looked up “health devotee” in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Brenda Munden.
As a health coach, personal trainer, and hormone support coach, this woman has dedicated her life to the practice of wellness. And not even a bout with the C word — or as Brenda lovingly calls it, ‘Boobie Cooties’ — could halt her mission towards a healthy state of being.
Coming out on the other side of breast cancer convinced her to add even more titles to her already-impressive resume. Not only is Brenda now a Cancer Exercise Specialist, becoming a beacon of hope for others struggling with this disease, but she’s also a Surthrivor.
“My journey is a testament to resilience and faith. Thirteen years ago, I embarked on a transformative health journey, determined to shed unhealthy habits and help others do the same.”
Brenda’s entire world changed with a breast cancer diagnosis in early 2022. A lump that doctors initially brushed off as a fibroid was revealed to actually be Invasive Mammary Carcinoma with Lobular features…and needless to say, Brenda was shocked.
The news was devastating, to say the least — especially considering her passion for healthy living and a clean mammogram only months before.
However, Brenda decided that she wouldn’t let “Boobie Cooties” derail her existence. Through the power of divine intervention and prayers, her tumor was found to be less aggressive than initially anticipated.
“Now, with a renewed sense of purpose, I am completing my Cancer Exercise Certification, ready to inspire and support other women battling breast cancer. My mission is to be a beacon of hope, reminding them that they are not alone and that they can rediscover their strength, no matter what challenges they face.”
After undergoing a double mastectomy, reconstruction, and revision surgery, Brenda emerged feeling even more empowered and strong. Now, she’s channeling this new state of being into her work as a Cancer Exercise Specialist, determined to inspire other women battling cancer. Brenda is an inspiration for Surthrivors everywhere, and she’s just getting started.
Every woman needs a lifeline while dealing with breast cancer. For Sue Ascencao, last month’s Surthrivor, it was the bond of sisterhood. Meanwhile, Max Devereaux leaned into creativity while Amanda Rondeau stayed active. For Brenda? She found her purpose at the intersection of faith and fitness.
“My faith is what got me through my entire journey. I had this peace from the very beginning that I would be okay. He had me and would put people by my side the whole way."
From the very beginning of her diagnosis, Brenda’s faith carried her through her toughest days. It brought her peace, power, and people who always had her back. This unwavering faith helped Brenda face her journey with a sense of calm, knowing that she had a greater purpose to fulfill.
We’ve already told you about her newfound certification as a Cancer Exercise Specialist, but it’s only the beginning of Brenda’s endeavors. She also hopes to one day create a nonprofit for fellow Surthrivors, while she spends her spare time mentoring high school students in her Texas town.
This woman is always brainstorming ways to help others achieve their healthiest existence, and it’s one of the things we love most about Brenda.
“Before 'Cooties', I was strong and loved my pre-menopausal muscle definition. I realized that we all get older and things change, but after 3 years on Tamoxifen, I am now starting to see and feel the changes that it has caused.”
Anyone who’s seen Brenda in action knows how fiery she is about fitness. Before her diagnosis, she was known for her muscle definition, something she’d worked hard for after her own weight loss journey. However, cancer treatment and the effects of Tamoxifen led her into a new phase…one she admits has been difficult to embrace.
This includes going into early menopause, leading to physical changes that Brenda admits have caused body dysmorphia in recent months.
But with the assistance of her faith, workouts, friends, and favorite Prime products, she’s working to embrace this new normal, all while encouraging her clients never to view themselves in a less-than-positive light.
“I have been looking for makeup that does not add to the toxins that are so prominent all around us. Excited to try the PrimeLash Growth Serum!”
For many breast cancer survivors like Brenda, early menopause is a reality caused by treatments like chemotherapy or hormone therapies. And the craziest thing? A survey by Maggie’s revealed that 30% of individuals experiencing early onset menopause weren't aware it could be caused by their cancer treatment, while 73% received little to no information about it.
Through her work as a friend, mentor, and coach, Brenda is bringing these issues to light in a healthy way — and looking gorgeous while doing it. In her post-remission beauty routine, she’s come to love Prime favorites, including PrimeSkin Beauty Water, PrimeEyes Glide Eyeliner, and PrimeLash Mascara, our hero product often hailed as the world’s #1 pro-age mascara.
Brenda’s story is one of transformation — fueled by a deep-rooted faith and fitness as her outlet for empowerment. From the shock of her diagnosis to the courage she found in embracing her changing body, Brenda has turned every challenge into an opportunity to grow.
As she continues to inspire others with her work as a fitness coach and mentor on post-cancer life, she proves that the journey doesn’t end with remission. It’s just the beginning of a new era. Are you ready to get moving and work out your body and mind with this month’s Surthrivor?
