Being Reduced to My Diagnosis.
Cancer does not ravage you like chemo does.
Chemo supposedly saves lives.. But at the same time, with the hair and lash loss, it leaves you reduced to your diagnosis.
People look at your bare eyes and your covered head with nothing but pity.
Chemo is so present that you gradually disappear.
No one asks you about your life.
The only thing they can focus on is your disease.
And then come the series of minor shocks.
Someone clicks your photograph and you realize how pale and ghastly, how lashless and naked you are!
You start recovering just a bit and you try on your favorite mascara. The next day the lashes that had grown post chemo drop off. Literally. They fall off… leaving you horrified and helpless again.
Chemical free make-up is so hard to find. True natural cosmetics are hidden away in overlooked corners of the internet.
And if by chance some mascara does not give you pink-eye, or kill your lashes, the poor quality pigment is so dark and over the top against your pale face that you look like a circus clown trying to mimic having healthy lashes.
I went through it all.
But I never gave up searching for a product that would make my recovery easier by giving me the confidence to look better.
I found it.. And it wasn’t an expensive medication. Or a procedure.
